Davy's Boneless Chuck

I was lucky enough to get Davy's Boneless Chuck after he died, and I struggled with where to put him. I finally found the perfect place ... in my office! Since Davy loved stuff animals so much, I  dug through the Barbie stuff I have and found a teddy bear for him to hold. Davy preferred stuffed dogs, but the bear is as close as I could come.

Alexa Says It's 1° Outside

So I bundled up and brought in a stack of firewood and built a fire. I thought all the wood I had was wet, but much of it was protected from the rain and snow, and the fire flared immediately. There is nothing more comforting than a fire on a bitterly cold winter day.

Turtle Bomb Bath

I had Davy's babies overnight Friday and all day Saturday. They were really, really good ... but boy was I tired when their mom picked them up Saturday evening!

They got their bath Friday night, and I used a turtle bomb my daughter had bought for them. The green water delighted them both. They giggled and splashed and played while I sat beside the bathtub watching them ... wishing they could stay this little and sweet and innocent.

This Has Been a Very Difficult Week

I have no idea why, nothing in particular happened, but every day has been agonizing. As paralyzingly painful as it is for me, that pain explodes when I see my daughters tortured over their brothers death. I've always been able to make them feel better, but this time, I'm as helpless as they are.

Davy posted the picture below on his Facebook page on September 27, 2012. We know he's a believer. We know he's in Heaven, and we take comfort in that, but even that comfort can take the pain away. The only way the pain will go away is when we finally see him in Heaven ... but that means one of us will have to go away, too ... and I don't think any of us could survive another death.

Marketing Strategy

I'm sure by calling these "Vinyl Examination Gloves", they're hoping to introduce the feeling of quality ... but it makes me a little queasy to think doctors might actually be buying examination gloves at Walmart!

Seven Months Today

You've been gone seven months today, Davy, and those months have been anguish. Sadly, I don't expect the next seven months to be any better. I don't even know if the next seven years will get any better.

I miss you, Davy. I miss you all day, every day. I do things to keep myself busy, hoping a project to concentrate on will take my mind off of you ... but it doesn't. I think of you the whole time I'm working.

I love you, Davy. I want one of your painful hugs ... and I want to hear you say, "I love you, Mama". You have no idea how much I miss hearing that. I want my son back.

I Changed Out My End Tables

My old end table.
I love the color and design of my old end tables, but they are square, which makes displaying photo's and having room for a drinks (or anything else) rather crowded.

The school desks my kids used in their rooms as children were in the basement. They are rectangle and the tops are solid wood and stained beautifully. I couldn't sleep one night last summer, so I got up at 2:00 in the morning and brought the desks upstairs to see how they looked ... and I liked it!

Satisfied, I went back to bed and tried (unsuccessfully) to fall asleep. Unable to sleep, I waited until it was light and went outside to water all my plants. I also attempted to put in a mole deterrent that emits sound and an electronic pulse, which supposedly drives those destructive little critters nuts and forces them to move on.

I must have struck a tree root, because I couldn't get it flush with the ground. I fiddled with it until I was soaking with sweat, so I left it be and decided I'd move it after I cooled off. When I got inside, I took off my wet shirt. Then I noticed the old end tables still in the kitchen, which I had neglected to moved downstairs when I brought the desks up. The door from the kitchen to the back hallway ... the fastest route to the basement ... isn't wide enough to get the tables through, so they would have to be taken out the front door, and in through the garage to the basement. I picked up one and headed for the door when I realized three things:
  1. I had forgotten the top of the table lifted off and was a chest that could be used separate of the base. Yea! More toy storage!
  2. The glass I had cut for the top fit perfectly inside the base and could be used as new end tables outside on my front porch.
  3. I was half naked, and probably should get dressed before I went outside!
I quickly put my shirt back on. I stacked the two chests under one of the end table/desks and put the bases outside, then moved the current (smaller) patio side tables from the front porch to the garage.

I think the legs on the desks would look better black than the current brown, so I plan on painting them (sometime), but all in all, I'm pleased. The rectangle desks give me room for the lamps, photo's, and leave plenty of room for a drink and other items I need to set down when relaxing in the living room.

Definitely gives me more room.
The new end tables.
The chests from the old end tables chests stacked under one of the desks.
The old bases as new side tables on the porch.
