Ecstatic??

I recently read an article about Nicholas Cage's son, Weston and his wife-to-be. Two days before their wedding, she found out she was pregnant. Upon sharing the news, the she said, "The whole room went silent. Everyone was ecstatic."

I'm just not sure "ecstatic" is the correct adjective here. When I think of ecstatic, I think cheering and hugs and loud congratulations. I think "dumbfounded" or "flabbergasted" ... would have been more appropriately descriptive.

Dead silence is the antithesis of ecstatic!
