Vantablack

Scientists have invented a material so black that your eyes can't see it. It's been billed as "the black to end all blacks".

I have a few of questions ...
  1. What was wrong with our existing black?
  2. How did they know our old black wasn't already the "black to end all blacks"?
  3. If you can't see it, how did they know they'd invented anything?
  4. Since black already exists, can you really invent black? Wasn't it actually more of a discovery?
